The Vermilion County Regional Office of Education has more than 50 new reasons to smile.
Students supported by the ROE's Truants' Alternative & Optional Education Program (TAOEP) were challenged to incur zero unexcused absences in the first month of school. The incentive? A Royal Donut smiley cookie. Fifty-one students crushed the goal!
On September 19 & 20, ROE Truancy Department staff members delivered cookies to the students at school & encouraged them to keep up the good work.
A sticker on the cookie pouch posed the question, "What good things have happened because you were in school?" A Westville High School student said good school attendance has kept her out of trouble at home and up-to-date on her schoolwork.
Additionally, several students said they enjoy going to school because they get to see their friends, while others said they like to read & learn math functions at school.
TAOEP programs serve students with attendance problems and/or dropouts, providing truancy prevention & intervention services and/or optional education.
The ROE would like to thank Royal Donut for generously donating the cookies, which were another reason to smile!
